Jason grew up in Sydney, Australia and at the age of 7 went to his first local tennis camp at Kingsford Tennis Centre, where he fell in love with the game, and to his great fortune, discovered a remarkable, driven coach, Carol Barclay.

She saw Jason as a talented, eager and well mannered young hopeful.

Carol knew of the reputation of an exceptional and highly successful tennis coach and former WW2 Drill Sergeant named Charlie Hollis who taught greats like Rod Laver, Mal Anderson, Roy Emerson, Wally Masur, Mark Edmondson, and Todd Woodbridge. In 1979 Charlie was conducting his unique method (military approach to tennis, a fusion) at Lyneham Tennis Centre Canberra. Carol would drive a group of her gifted players up on weekends, this included Jason and her daughter Catherine, for high intensity tennis drilling, until Charlie relocated to Sydney.

At this time, under the tutelage (for 7 years) of renowned tennis coach Charlie Hollis, Jason became a promising Australian junior.

As a Junior singles player, Jason reached the New South Wales highest ranking of No.3 and Australian National ranking of No.7.

At school Jason represented Waverley College and at an early age of 13 reached No.1 player in the 1st team, which also went on to win a C.C.A title (this was the first time the school had won the event). Jason also went on to win the under 14's National School Boys Championship and in the final beating Lee Holyoak the National No.1.

Other highlights winning the Strathfield Grasscourt title, Northern Beaches classic, Southern Sydney Kirrawee, and White City Championship.

His regular off court activities were:

Boxing with instructor Bernie Hall,
Strength training with Paul Graham,
Althletics with instructor Jack Giddy,
Pilates with trainer Allen Menezes,
Spiritual and Meditational teachings with Nawang Khechog, Tibetan Buddhist Priest.

All highly regarded experts in their chosen fields.

Jason’s private coach 1987-88 was Mark Edmondson (former Charlie Hollis pupil and the last Australian to win the Australian Open) who insisted on developing an all-court game and his belief to finish points at the net. During this time Jason was selected in the New South Wales McDonald's Junior State Squads and was coached by Terry Rocavert and John Alexander (Australian Davis Cup representatives).

Member of the Eastern Suburbs Inter-District Team and played as No.1. During 1989 Australia Junior summer I.T.F. circuit under 18’s Events: Finalist South Australian Juniors and 2nd round Australian Open.

At age 16, Jason was selected by Master Tactician, Barry Phillips-Moore as a member of his professional tennis team which consisted of Mark Woodford, Carl Limberger, John Frawley, Tom Nijjsen, Brent Larkham, Wayne Arthurs, Dennis Soumilas and numerous other top ranking players.

Jason participated in 1989-1991 I.T.F. under 18’s Roland Garros and Roehampton Junior tennis tournament.

They consulted with Dr. Leon Root, a widely known Orthopedic Surgeon (and Author “No More Aching Back") NY Hospital.
September 1991 at the age of 19 years, Jason was forced to retire due to genetic defect lower back L4 Spondylolisthesis.

1991-92 attended Bond University Law School in Queensland. While at Law school, Jason trained and coached part-time for Ken Rosewall at Tennis Fairways Resort Queensland. Jason deferred University in 1993 to tour the W.T.A circuit and coach a good friend Catherine Barclay ranked No.170 W.T.A. During this successful period Catherine competed at the Australian Open and European W.T.A. summer circuits.

Then in 1994 Jason was as an associate Coach at the Terry Hills Country Club with head coaches Kim Warwick and Mark Edmondson (his former Coach). They worked with top Australian juniors like, Jelena Dokic and Adam Kennedy. A massive step in Jason's coaching career was in 1995-96 when he (as a coach) and Adam Kennedy (elite junior player) were invited to join the Nick Bollettieri Team. Jason went on to serve his coaching apprenticeship in the world’s most famous tennis school, the Nick Bollettieri Sports Academy I.M.G.
